The Happy Tutors CEQ & AEIS Exam Preparation

The Happy Tutors AEIS/CEQ tuition exam preparation helps foreign students with the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) so that they can enter the Singapore public schools. For admission in the next academic year, the AEIS will begin in July of this year. Tentatively, tests will either be conducted in September or October annually.

International students seeking admission to Primary 2 to 5 and Secondary 1 to 3 in the next academic year are required to take the AEIS.

If your child is looking to enter Primary School:

The previous AEIS English examination conducted by the Ministry of Education (MOE) has been discontinued, since 2023, international students looking to enter primary school are required to take the Cambridge English Qualification (CEQ) as part of AEIS. The CEQ can be taken at any Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) centre in any country.

What is the Cambridge English Qualification (CEQ)?

The CEQ determines your child’s English proficiency. Your child has to meet the requirements of the Cambridge English Scale in their CEQ test before submitting the AEIS application. Therefore, admission is conditional on your child’s performance in the tests, to ensure a smooth admission process, Happy Tutors is rolling out our CEQ preparation classes

What skills are tested for the CEQ?

Lower Level A2 KEY:

  1. Reading and Writing
  2. Listening
  3. Speaking

Higher Level B1 Preliminary:

How will Happy Tutors help students prepare for the CEQ?

Happy Tutors is rolling out our 12 week course focusing on various aspects of the test, involving activities training your child’s ability to read, write, listen and speak. This course will include discussion based classes with activities and learning material provided like worksheets and listening comprehension exercises. With our comprehensive exam preparation, your child should see improvement in their English language capabilities.

What’s next?

After meeting the required CES score in the CEQ test, within 12 months, you must apply to take the relevant AEIS Mathematics test. Once again, placement will be conditional on the AEIS-Pri Mathematics test scores.

If your child is looking to enter Secondary School

There is no change to the admission tests. CEQ is not applicable to secondary school applicants. Your child will take both the relevant English and Mathematics tests after applying for AEIS-Secondary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child have to take the CEQ test?

The CEQ test is administered to those in the primary school level, secondary school students don’t have to take the CEQ. Find out what is suitable for your child’s age: or Whatsapp us and we can assist you in determining your child’s level suitability.

What is the difference between the Supplementary Admissions Exercise for International Students (S-AEIS) and AEIS?

The S-AEIS typically begins in January, and successful candidates will begin school in the middle of the year in April or May whereas AEIS applicants will start school in a fresh academic year in January after their application year (Example: Apply in July 2023, Start in Jan 2024)

If your child did not qualify for AEIS or missed the regular intake period in July, the S-AEIS program is for them. However do take note that the S-AEIS intake will not allow for Primary 5 and Secondary 3 admission. The S-AEIS features a more condensed version of the examination content compared to the AEIS.

Do I have to pay to take the AEIS test?

Yes. Payment information can be found on MOE’s website:

Am I guaranteed a spot if I pass the required tests?

MOE will take into account test scores when determining an applicant’s eligibility in a school placement. Scores alone do not guarantee placement.
